The application for the Active, Associate, and International categories require the applicant obtain two sponsors. You will need to have both of your sponsor forms arrive in the office and complete your on-line application before your membership application will be complete.
The Resident/Fellow category is a one step process which requires a letter of recommendation from a Residency Director or Fellowship Director along with the on-line application.

Resident/Fellow
Medical or osteopathic physicians who are enrolled in a certified orthopaedic residency or fellowship program within North America may join the Association as Resident/Fellow members. Applicants must obtain a letter of recommendation from the Residency or Fellowship Director. Resident/Fellow members are not eligible to hold office, serve on committees, or vote. Upon completion of the Residency or fellowship program Resident/Fellow members are automatically upgraded to Associate membership.

Associate
Medical or osteopathic physicians practicing in North America who have completed an orthopaedic surgery residency and are Board Eligible may join the Association as Associate members. Board Certified physicians can also join in this category. Application for membership in the Associate category does not require the submission of operative reports. Associate members receive all membership benefits except voting and serving as an officer. Associate members can upgrade to Active status when they are Board Certified. Associate members must attend at least one AANA meeting every three years to maintain membership. The meetings that qualify are the AANA Annual Meeting, AANA Fall Course and the AANA Masters Experience Courses at the Learning Center.

Active
Medical or osteopathic physicians practicing in North America who have completed an orthopaedic surgery residency and are Board certified may apply to AANA for Active membership. To apply for Active membership, one must perform a minimum of 50 arthroscopic procedures a year. Active members may vote, hold office and serve on committees. Applicants for Active membership must also have attended an AANA educational meeting within two years prior to application. Active members must attend at least one AANA meeting every three years to maintain membership. The meetings that qualify are the AANA Annual Meeting, AANA Fall Course and the AANA Masters Experience Courses at the Learning Center.

Medical or osteopathic physicians certified by the Orthopaedic Board or college in the country where they practice. Applicants must have demonstrated a major interest in arthroscopy. This category is for candidates who reside and practice in countries other than the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Applicants for Active membership must also have attended an AANA educational meeting within two years prior to application. Members must attend the AANA Annual Meeting, AANA Fall Course, or an AANA Masters Experience Course at The Learning Center at least once every three years to maintain membership.
