Ochsner Clinic Foundation Program

The Ochsner Clinic Foundation Orthopaedic Sports Medicine Fellowship is a one year post graduate educational program for physicians who have completed an ACGME approved Orthopaedic residency program and are board eligible or board certified. The primary educational goal of this curriculum is the development of a well-rounded competency in the field of Orthopaedic Sports Medicine. Fellows rotate between our 3 sports medicine fellowship trained physicians that focus on issues with knee, shoulder, hip and exposure to cartilage restoration. There is sports conference every week on Thursday mornings and each fellow is expected to complete 2 talks during the year on topics that will be assigned. Sports journal club is held once a month on Tuesday evenings. Research conference is held once a month on Fridays with the Program Director and our research coordinators. Fellows are expected to complete 1 basic science or clinical research project for publication. We have the largest athletic trainer outreach program in the State of Louisiana. Our outreach program consists of over 50 athletic trainers who cover numerous high schools, colleges and professional sports teams. Each fellow will be expected to independently cover high school and college sports teams. Our physicians provide medical coverage to the New Orleans Saints NFL team and the New Orleans Pelicans NBA team. There is an onsite human anatomy lab where 6 wet labs are held during the year. Offsite surgical skills labs are also available. Funding is available for fellows to attend one national meeting during the year. This program provides fellows with a wide variety of surgical cases.
