Expertise will be gained in shoulder arthroscopic and open stabilization techniques, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, acromioclavicular joint reconstruction, and hemi-, total and reverse shoulder arthroplasty. The fellows will gain significant experience in ACL, PCL, and posterolateral corner and multiple ligament reconstruction. The fellowship provides exposure to surgical procedures including osteotomies about the knee, osteoarticular resurfacing, and meniscal transplantation. MRI interpretation, rehabilitation, and nonsurgical treatments are also emphasized. There is a significant rotation at Connecticut Children's Medical Center gaining experience in pediatric and adolescent sports medicine. This includes management of young athletes with problems such as osteochondritis dissecans, ACL reconstruction, and throwing injuries in the pediatric population. CCMC also features a robust gait analysis lab. The fellows will actively participate in coverage of the University of Connecticut Division I Athletic Program featuring football, men's and women's basketball, men's and women's soccer, hockey, field hockey and lacrosse just to name a few. Further, the fellow will gain additional team coverage of Quinnipiac University, Trinity College and local high schools. Research in orthopaedic sports medicine is an important component of this fellowship experience. Each fellow is required to to participate actively in research and to produce an acceptable manuscript on the fellowship research.
