Membership Categories

The application for the Active, Associate, and International categories is a two step process.  First, the applicant needs to obtain two sponsors.  Once both of the sponsor forms arrive in the office, then the actual application is mailed to the applicant.  Check to see if your sponsor forms have arrived in the AANA office.  If both sponsor forms have arrived, then you will be allowed to download the membership application.

The Resident category is a one step process which requires a letter of recommendation from a Residency Director or Fellowship Director along with the actual application.  Download the Resident application from this page.

Active
Board certified medical or osteopathic surgeons residing or practicing in North America who perform a minimum of 50 arthroscopic procedures a year.

Associate
Medical or osteopathic doctors who have completed an orthopaedic surgery residency, but may not be Board certified. Associate members receive all benefits excepting voting and serving as an officer. Members can remain in this category for no longer than five years before upgrading to Active status.

Resident/Fellow
Medical or osteopathic physicians who are enrolled in a certified orthopaedic residency or fellowship program within North America may join the Association as Resident/Fellow members. Applicants must obtain a letter of recommendation from the Residency or Fellowship Director. Resident/Fellow members are not eligible to hold office, serve on committees or vote. Upon completion of the residency/fellowship program, resident/fellow members must upgrade to Associate membership and fulfill those requirements.

International
Medical or osteopathic doctors certified by the Orthopaedic Board or college in the country where they practice. Applicants must document a major interest in arthroscopy and have two letters of recommendation. One of which must be from an Active member of AANA. This category is for residents of countries other than the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Requirements

Applicants for membership must be sponsored by at least two current Active members of the Association and demonstrate that they meet the stringent criteria established for knowledge and technique. Applicants for Active membership must also have attended an AANA educational meeting within two years prior to application. Members must attend the Annual Meeting, Fall Course, Winter Course or AANA Masters Experience Course at The Learning Center at least once every three years to maintain membership.
