Dear colleagues, friends and partners of AANA:
I hope this message finds you and your families safe and healthy.
The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted all of us in many ways and has disrupted both our personal and professional lives. Despite a degree of optimism that the spring may bring us closer to normal, the AANA leadership must make definitive decisions related to our educational mission that will keep our members, their families and our patients safe. Thus, the AANA Board of Directors made a difficult decision to cancel the AANA Annual Meeting in Chicago, April 22-24, 2021.
It is said that when one door closes, another one opens. Having explored many alternative options, we are excited to share our plan. The AANA Board of Directors joins me in announcing a revolutionary and exciting collaborative initiative: For the first time in AANA’s nearly 40-year history and AOSSM’s nearly 50-year history, the leadership of both organizations have agreed to collaborate on a combined 2021 AOSSM/AANA Annual Meeting to be held in Nashville, Tennessee July 7-11, 2021. This is an opportunity to create what we believe to be the most comprehensive and robust educational partnership in arthroscopy and sports medicine in the history of our societies.
To further enhance the collaboration, the 2nd Annual Biologic Association Summit will be held in conjunction with the combined 2021 AOSSM/AANA Annual Meeting. I anticipate that this will be THE premier educational event of 2021 and hope that you share our vision and enthusiasm and plan to attend assuming the path is clear of the recent challenges we face.
I want to thank the AOSSM Board and President, Dr. Michael Ciccotti, for his dedication and commitment to this unique opportunity. We look forward to working together with our combined program committee over the next eight months.
Representing AANA’s programming and education will be Dr. Nikhil Verma, as Program Chair, and Dr. Kevin Bonner, as Vice-Program Chair. They will work with Drs. Steven Cohen and Brett Owens from AOSSM to create an outstanding program. I have every confidence that they will deliver a high-quality, impactful and memorable blended program incorporating key aspects of AANA’s mission and traditions.
The pandemic has caused all of us to pivot in our professional and personal lives. Sometimes it’s hard to see the silver lining during such turbulent times; however, I have witnessed my colleagues become more resourceful, innovative and collaborative in facing this unprecedented challenge. This is an amazing opportunity for our organizations to work together and deliver a powerful message of unity and collaboration.
As this will also be AANA’s 40-Year Anniversary, we especially look forward to building this epic meeting and making history, together!
Mark your calendars and stay tuned for more information!
