The AANA Bylaws Committee and Board of Directors are proposing Bylaws revisions. Proposed Bylaws changes include the following:
Proposed Change: Addition of a Candidate Membership Category
Rationale: With the addition of this new category AANA is able to develop and offer resources and tools that are specifically beneficial for those early in practice.
Bylaw Language: Medical and osteopathic doctors who are within two years post-orthopaedic surgery residency completion or are within two years post-fellowship, and practice or reside in the United States are eligible for Candidate Membership. Candidate Members shall pay dues to the association. Candidate Members do not have voting rights. Candidate Members may serve on committees, but they may not hold office.
Proposed Change: Change the Chair of the Finance Committee to the Treasurer
Rationale: Oversight of the Finance Committee has been the responsibility of the Treasurer, not the President. The change represents a reflection of the actual process.
Bylaw Language: There shall be a Finance Committee which will be composed of the President, First Vice President, Second Vice President, Treasurer, two (2) members of the Board of Directors who shall be appointed by the President, the Development Committee Chair and the Immediate Past President. The Immediate Past President will serve as an ex-officio member of the committee. The Treasurer shall serve as the chair of the committee.
Proposed Change: Language and Grammar Changes
Rationale: Review of the Bylaws found inconsistencies in language as well as language that does not reflect the current process.
ACTIVE, INTERNATIONAL AND SENIOR MEMBERS: Please review the Bylaws revisions and cast your vote by September 30, 2020.
