The field of orthopaedics continues to face threats to access and surgical care. To best serve your patients in providing innovative care, you, as an Orthopaedic Surgeon, need to make your voice heard among those policymakers whose decisions affect the profession. Please act today on both critical issues described below:
Cuts to Musculoskeletal Care Services
With the public comment period ending on October 5, there’s one last opportunity to weigh in on the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services' proposed cuts to musculoskeletal care services and the forthcoming changes to evaluation and management global surgical codes. Please consider acting today before the rules are finalized.
Join AAOS in urging CMS Administrator Seema Verma to extend the E/M updates to global codes, reject the RUC-recommendations for cuts to TKA/THA and protect the value of these life-improving procedures before the rule is finalized.

Surgical Code Payment Changes
Finalized policies from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) will result in significant cuts to physician payment for most surgical services delivered to Medicare patients, destabilize health system financing and drastically diminish the opportunity for hospital and physician practices to recover financially from COVID-19. Help by calling on Congress to take immediate action to stop the proposed 5% cut to orthopaedics and require CMS to apply the increased E/M adjustment to 10- and 90-day global code values.
Write your representative today and ask them to sign a letter led by Rep. Ami Bera, M.D. (D-CA-07) and Rep. Larry Bucshon, M.D., FACS (R-IN-08), to prevent cuts to Medicare payment for surgical services.
