Dear Valued Members of AANA and AOSSM:
On behalf of both the AANA and AOSSM leadership and professional teams, we hope everyone is safe and healthy during these unprecedented times. While we continue to navigate challenges presented by COVID-19, both organizations have been extremely active in creating relevant, virtual programming to keep members at the top of your game.
Even with new concepts and ideas flourishing, all organizations are faced with questions related to whether planned events will be cancelled or postponed. We wanted to take this opportunity to fill you in on one important event for both AANA and AOSSM: 2021 Specialty Day.
Last week, AAOS President Joe Bosco, M.D. contacted the presidents of the orthopaedic subspecialty organizations to let us know that AAOS leadership has made the difficult decision to reschedule their 2021 Annual Meeting in San Diego to the last week of August. The schedule shift presents unique challenges for our members, many of whom have obligations to their professional affiliations coinciding with the rescheduled AAOS meeting.
After discussion and deliberation, the leadership and professional teams of AANA and AOSSM have decided to move forward with our collaborative efforts and offer a virtual Specialty Day in March 2021. This is an exciting opportunity for our organizations to continue providing high-quality orthopaedic sports and arthroscopy content for our members. The ability to present Specialty Day in the Spring, in a medium that is both convenient and accessible for all, were among our deciding factors.
The AANA and AOSSM leadership and professional teams will meet next week to discuss details and begin planning. We will keep you informed about all the specifics as soon as information is available and encourage you to reach out with questions. The best sources for up-to-date news about Specialty Day, and all upcoming events, are our websites: aana.org and sportsmed.org.
