908 - Foot and Ankle (APEx)

The foot/ankle course is an interactive two-day hands-on surgical skills course presented by the Arthroscopy Association of North America.  The purpose of the course is to provide the opportunity for participants to improve their arthroscopic skills in ankle and foot surgery.  The course is open to orthopedic surgeons of all skill levels from novice to expert.  The novice arthroscopist may begin the course with the most basic exposure to diagnostic arthroscopy of the ankle and then advance as his/her skills allow to more advanced procedures.  The practitioner with established skills in arthroscopic ankle surgery has the opportunity to hone those skills and to be exposed to advanced techniques in ankle surgery to expand his/her surgical armamentarium.  Both novice and advanced will have the benefit of expert instruction by mentors assigned to them specifically. The course is under the direction of James Stone M.D. and Richard Ferkel M.D., and they will be assisted by master instructors Phinit Phisitkul, Peter Mangone, Eric Giza, and John Kennedy, all of whom bring a special skill set so that the course can feature cutting edge techniques in the treatment of ankle and foot disorders. The course features 7 hours of hands-on laboratory time, along with focused lectures, and utilizes the latest equipment and techniques on cadaver specimens.  Lecture presentations will be augmented with videos of actual arthroscopic surgeries.  A portion of the course will be presented in a “case-based” format to enhance the educational objectives.
