For the Third Year the Orthopaedic Consortium Awards $200,000 in Research Grants Continuing with Special Focus on the Military

AANA, in collaboration with the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM) and the Society for Military Orthopaedic Surgeons (SOMOS), announced the third year of $200,000 in grant funding aimed at advancing research in orthopaedics, with special focus on the military. This grant, funded by the AANA Military Advanced Surgical Training Program (MAST), seeks to make significant advancements in orthopaedic treatment and techniques serving the military.

This year, the organizations are pleased to announce two deserving recipients of the MAST research grant funding:

  • $150,000 to Jason Dragoo, M.D., FAANA, for his study, A Multi-Center Biologics Association Registry and Biorepository of Platelet-Rich Plasma for the Treatment of Symptomatic Knee Osteoarthritis Among Civilian and Military Populations. The objective of this study is to integrate comprehensive biospecimen analyses with clinical information and patient-reported outcomes to develop a predictive framework and informatic pathways that enable them to predict responses to treatment and will therefore allow for identification of patients who may be appropriate candidates for PRP treatment.
  • $50,000 to Michael Banffy, M.D., for his study, Bioinductive Collagen Implant Augmentation in Hip Arthroscopy: A Randomized Controlled Trial Evaluating Enhanced Recovery in Military and Athletic Populations. The long-term objectives of this study compass establishing evidence-based protocols for bioinductive augmentation in hip arthroscopy, developing objective biomechanical criteria for return-to-duty clearance and creating standardized assessment tools for military treatment healing.

AANA, AOSSM and SOMOS congratulate Drs. Dragoo and Banffy and are pleased to support such important initiatives with critical research grant funding.
