AANA Announces 2026-2027 Board of Directors

The Arthroscopy Association of North America has announced its 2026–2027 Board of Directors and the Presidential Line. Kevin F. Bonner, M.D., FAANA, will serve as President, with Joseph C. Tauro, M.D., FAANA, as First Vice President, and Jason L. Dragoo, M.D., FAANA, as Second Vice President.
Dr. Bonner is an Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in shoulder and knee surgery at the Jordan-Young Institute in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where he also serves as Director of the Jordan Research Foundation. He is a Clinical Professor at Eastern Virginia Medical School and is widely recognized for his expertise in sports medicine and arthroscopic surgery.
With more than 25 years of experience, Dr. Bonner trained at the Hospital for Special Surgery and subsequently served in the U.S. Navy as Chief of Sports Medicine at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth, where he was also the Orthopaedic Surgeon for the U.S. Navy SEALs. His commitment to research, education and evidence-based innovation has established him as a respected leader in orthopaedics and arthroscopy.
Within AANA, Dr. Bonner has held numerous leadership roles, including Treasurer and Chair of the Education Committee. He served as Program Co-Chair for the 2021 AOSSM/AANA Combined Annual Meeting and as Program Chair for the 2022 AANA Annual Meeting, and has led numerous AANA Lab Courses over the years. His clinical expertise, thoughtful leadership, and longstanding commitment to orthopaedic education will continue to advance AANA’s mission.
Bringing decades of experience in orthopaedic surgery, education and innovation, Dr. Tauro serves as First Vice President. Dr Tauro is a Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at NJ Medical School and also practices as a member of Advanced Orthopedics and Sports Medicine Institute (AOSMI) in New Jersey, Dr. Tauro is especially recognized for his expertise in shoulder and knee reconstruction. An AANA member since 1992, Dr. Tauro started teaching as an Associate Master Instructor almost immediately and became a Master Instructor in 1996, teaching many Shoulder Arthroscopy courses since then. He has been Chair of AANA’s Communication and Technology Committee and Learning Center Committee where he introduced hybrid learning featuring prelab online didactic teaching to maximize motor skills learning when in the lab.
Dr. Tauro joined the AANA Board of Directors in 2020 and was AANA Secretary from 2023 to 2025. A trailblazer in arthroscopic shoulder surgery and simulation training, Dr. Tauro was instrumental in launching AANA’s arthroscopic simulation programs for teaching and skills assessment. His leadership helped build curricula across multiple joints and guide the development of a landmark study comparing low-fidelity, high-fidelity and cadaveric models in rotator cuff and Bankart repair training. He is now continuing the work of helping to develop the next generation of AI-assisted simulation and patient specific surgery. His long-standing commitment to surgical education makes him a valuable asset to AANA’s leadership team.
Jason L. Dragoo, M.D., FAANA, has been named second vice president. Dr. Dragoo is a board-certified Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in sports medicine and minimally invasive procedures. He currently serves as Professor and Vice Chair of Academic Affairs for the University of Colorado Department of Orthopaedics and is the Endowed Chair of Regenerative Medicine as well as the Director of the Steadman Hawkins Clinic Denver and Regenerative Medicine Center.
He internationally recognized for his work in biologics, regenerative medicine and joint preservation techniques. Dr. Dragoo was the inaugural Chairman of the Biologics Association, and is currently leading the construction of the OrthoBiologic Registry and Biorepository System, which is a collaboration of AAOS, AANA, AOSSM and the Biologic Association.
Dr. Dragoo serves as Head Team Physician for the Denver Nuggets and was the Head Team Physician for the Stanford University football program for 12 years before his move to Colorado.
An active AANA leader for many years, Dr. Dragoo previously served as AANA Treasurer for two years and has contributed across numerous committees and leadership initiatives within the organization. He has also been instrumental in advancing innovation efforts within AANA as Chair of the Innovation Task Force, helping guide new technologies, ideas and educational opportunities that continue to shape the future of arthroscopy and minimally invasive surgery.
