AANA25 featured programming across every joint and dynamic presentation formats that kept audiences actively engaged. Crowd-favorite debate sessions put two surgeons head-to-head to defend their treatment strategies. AANA25 also delivered a highly successful virtual experience, welcoming participants from around the world who joined online to access the meeting’s educational content and full lineup of Instructional Course Lectures (ICLs).

2025 AANA/ISAKOS Specialty Day

 

A Specialty Day first! AANA and the International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS) collaborated on the 2024 program in San Francisco. Featured topics focused on contemporary controversies in knee, shoulder and hip with an international flair. More than 300 attendees experienced program highlights such as the annual AANA Innovations Lecture.



Military

The 2025 MAST Summit, held October 3–4 in Annapolis, brought together leaders from AANA, AOSSM, and SOMOS for two days of scientific exchange, program updates, and military–civilian collaboration in musculoskeletal care. 

The program opened with welcome remarks followed by a review of key milestones from the MAST Program. The Summit also showcased major research achievements, including announcements of the 2025 MAST Research Award recipients: 

  • $150k Grant Recipient: 
    A Multi-Center Biologics Association Registry and Biorepository of Platelet-Rich Plasma for the Treatment of Symptomatic Knee Osteoarthritis Among Civilian and Military Populations — presented by Jason Dragoo, MD, FAANA.  
  • $50k Grant Recipient: 
    Bioinductive Collagen Implant Augmentation in Hip Arthroscopy: A Randomized Controlled Trial Evaluating Enhanced Recovery in Military and Athletic Populations — presented by Derrick Agbemenu on behalf of Michael Banffy, MD, FAANA. 

A cornerstone of the meeting was a panel discussion on the ongoing MAST–MOTION partnership to advance musculoskeletal health within military populations, featuring Dr. Kelly Kilcoyne and esteemed military medical leaders such as Rear Adm. Bruce Gillingham, MD, Andy Sheean, MD, Robert McGill, MD, and Jeanne Patzkowski, MD, FAANA. Additional program topics included: the Catalyst Program update from Dr. Andrew Sheean, the MAST 3.0 initiative focused on surgical skills training led by Dr. Joe Tauro, and ongoing Federal advocacy efforts. 

Attendees also heard updates from the 2024 MAST Research Award recipients, each presenting progress on their funded studies: 

  • Bracing and Reconstruction of the Anterior Cruciate Ligament for Efficacy Trial (BRACE-trial) — presented by Drew Recker, MD. 
  • Ideal Suture Configuration in a Novel Shoulder Instability Model — presented by Travis Dekker, MD, FAANA.  

The Summit wrapped up with a Saturday brunch for those heading to the 2025 Navy vs. Air Force football game. It was a close matchup, with the home team, Navy, getting a 34-31 victory.

Arthroscopy Techniques 

 

This online-only, video-based journal is the companion to Arthroscopy, designed to introduce peer-reviewed surgical modification and techniques in an interactive format. We evaluate submission of Technical Notes – including precise text, clear figures and detailed videos – in an average of 30 days or less.

Arthroscopy, Sports Medicine, and Rehabilitation (ASMAR) 

 

ASMAR is one of two open access companion title to the respected Arthroscopy.  It aims to peer review and publish clinical and basic science articles of interest to health care providers and scientific researchers. Brough to you by the same editorial team at Arthroscopy, ASMAR is broad in scope and covers topics ranging from arthroscopy and related surgery to orthopaedic and primary care sports medicine., physical therapy and rehabilitation, athletic training, musculoskeletal imaging, economic and large database analyses, and public health. ASMAR is indexed in PubMed Central and available through Medline search.

 

Podcasts 

Experience Arthroscopy through podcasts. Detailed discussions of an article published in Arthroscopy via author interviews conducted by AANA members have been popular since 2021.
