Day 6: San Diego Naval Medical Center
On their final full day in San Diego, the Fellows visited the Balboa Naval Medical Center and presented their talks to the department of orthopaedic surgery. They were gifted navy coins, coffee mugs and San Diego Padre hats.
Next the Fellows went to the Miramar Marine base and took part in the marine aviation training system: flying simulated F-18 jets!
Their grueling training was rewarded with an ocean-side lunch at the famous “haunted” Hotel Del Coronado!
They were then treated to a special tour of the USS Carl Vinson Naval Carrier.
On board they were welcomed by the commanding officer and visited the flight deck, bridge and medical bay.
They ended their busy day with dinner at site host (and former Traveling Fellow!) Dr. McDonald’s house and presented their amazing hosts with gifts of their own.
